Fresh Jamon on London’s ‘Tin Pan Alley’

In between revision and cloudy days, I’ve been feeling a little blue–perhaps from missing my friends too much? So today I finally kidnapped my friend Samantha, the first of many amazing girls I’ve met at LSE, for a lunch and coffee break. Recently, we’ve seen the openings of multiple restaurants in Central London but in particular, I’ve had my eyes on the glossy looking corner cafe by Denmark Street. The recently opened Fernandez and Wells is located right on the corner of London’s ‘Tin Pan Alley,’ home to and visited by many famous British rock and jazz musicians. Did you know Elton John recorded his first hit single, Your Song, here? The minute you enter F&W, you’re greeted with A LOT of sandwiches and cakes. Grilled chorizo roasted red pepper and rocket? Egg mayonnaise and black pudding? Jamon and cheese? In the end, I chose the mozzarella, prosciutto, and tomato sandwich while Samantha ordered the aubergine and spinach one. The prosciutto was absolutely amazing, and paired with a thick slice of mozzarella, I was in love (I later learned F&W imports their …

a little piece of Tokyo in Koya Bar こやバー

Koya Bar has been one of my favorite finds in London’s Soho area. The authentic Japanese bar seatings, with its traditional fare of Japanese breakfast in the morning, it’s perfect if you’re craving some udon noodles or kuro kakuni (honey braised pork belly). As today was one of London’s rare sunny days, I was craving some cold noodles to celebrate the gorgeous day. It was a hard decision, but I ended up getting Koya’s Tenzaru Udon (prawn and vegetable tempura) with a side of Kinoko Nametake (marinated mushrooms). The udon was chewy and refreshing, absolutely perfect with the sesame, ginger, and sweet soy dipping sauce. The vegetable tempura was good too, but the prawn tempura was absolutely amazing! I loved how the crispy batter didn’t overwhelm the sweet prawn. If you love sweet and salty dishes, the marinated mushrooms were also a great pick. Koya Bar is perfect if you’re looking for a bowl of noodles, some small dishes, and an authentic taste of Tokyo. Address // 49 Frith St, London W1D 4SG Phone Number // +44 20 7434 4463 Website …

welcome to eatprayjade!

“I’ve always wanted to start a food blog.” That’s probably a phrase all my close friends have heard me repeat multiple times.  Having recently travelled to Italy over Easter, every bite of pasta and excessive indulgence in gelato has reminded me what ‘La Dolce Vita’ is. Maybe that’s why I decided no more procrastination, I need to start my own blog right now. I mean, as Coco Chanel once said,  “you live but once; you might as well be amusing.” If she’s that classy and fabulous, she must have a point, right? So as my year in London is winding down, it’s time for me to eat, laugh, and post a whirlwind of great places to visit. From sweetcorn fritter burgers to thick ramen noodles, it’s time to savor these last weeks. One delicious food affair at a time. P.S. This morning, I was lucky enough to snag a table at Granger and Co. in Notting Hill, a brunch spot I’ve been wanting to try for a while! When I was in Japan last summer, I did not stop hearing about how amazing Bill …
